Individual Knock-Out Competition • Head-To-Head Island Pond Matches
New for 2010 is an Individual Knock-Out Competition to be fished at Century Island Pond, either during Club Matches, or at a time and date agreed between each pair of anglers.
Each match is 5 hours long and day tickets must be purchased direct from the Club Secretary before each round. All species count. Two keep nets must be used, one for Carp and one for Silvers.
There is a one-off pools fee of £10.00, to be paid before March 31st. Pools payout will take place on the day of the final. Total prize money will depend on the number of entrants. More than 14 anglers will need to book-in for the Competition to be held.
It is the responsibility of the winning angler to record and submit the results to the Match Organiser by phone or texting to 07973 736519. Confirmation of your text will be sent within 48 hours of receiving the result.
In the event of a draw, a re-match must be arranged. Another day ticket will be required for re-matches. First round Matches to be completed before May 31st. Second round Matches before July 31st. Third round Matches before September 30th. Final round Matches to be completed before October 31st.
To enter the Competition, please submit your pools money and your telephone number to the Club Secretary by March 31st.
All-Night Carp Series • Saturday Night 18-Hour Carp Matches • 4 Rounds
The All-Night Carp Series is held at Century Ponds in the spring and summer months of each season. The draw takes place at 1pm on the Saturday, fishing 2pm until 8am the following Sunday.
The four Matches feature an aggregate weight competition, with the biggest total winning the Series and a Gold Card. The angler who lands the biggest single Carp of the Series will be awarded the D. & R. Price Cup. All Carp over 5lb will be weighed by the Match Officials and returned to the water.
The entry fee for each round is £15 - a £5 pegging fee and £10 towards the prize fund. All peg fees for the Series (£20) are to be paid at the draw of the first Match. The sixteen anglers who enter Round 1 will compete in all 4 Rounds.

E.M. Palmer Cup • Wednesday Evening Silver Fish Series • 6 Rounds
The E.M. Palmer Cup is contested for in a six-match silver fish Wednesday evening Series which takes place during May and June each year at Century Island Pond.
There is a £20 fee to enter the Series, which is paid out to the overall Series winner, then £10 per Match - £7 to the prize fund, £3 towards pegging fee. The Series is limited to 10 anglers on a first-come-first-served basis. The draw takes place at 5pm, fishing from 6pm to 9pm.
The winner of each round is awarded 1 point, 2 points for 2nd, and so on. The best 5 results count in the final league table. Carp under 2lb count in these Matches, to be retained in a separate Carp-friendly keepnet. Carp over 2lb in weight do not count in this Series. The next series commences on 5th May 2010.
Mervyn Holmes Challenge Bowl • The Original Rosebowl
The Mervyn Holmes Challenge Bowl is traditionally fished for on an 'away' water such as the River Avon.
The 'Rosebowl' was contested for the first time in over a decade in 2009 on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Digger Smiths Yard, Claverton. The winner was Mike Taylor, who last won the trophy in 1993.
The next 'Rosebowl' Match is on 23rd October 2010 on the Kennet & Avon Canal.
Keeling Cup • River Chew Match On The First Sunday Of The Season
The Keeling Cup is traditionally contested for on the first or second Sunday of the new Coarse season in June, by way of a Match on the Mill Ground stretch of the River Chew.
The Keeling Cup was presented to Keynsham Angling Association by Harry O. Keeling in 1967. Roger Palmer and Warren Bates have both won the trophy four times. The next Keeling Cup Match takes place on 27th June 2010.
Club Matches • River Avon, Century Ponds, Kennet & Avon Canal
Club Matches are held periodically at Century Island Pond, on the River Avon at Swineford or Keynsham, and on the Kennet & Avon Canal. These contests cost £13 to enter - a £3 pegging fee and £10 towards the pools. Club Matches on the Kennet & Avon Canal cost £15 to enter.
The President's Rosebowl will be awarded to the angler who catches the biggest single weight during the Club Matches fished at Century Island Pond each year.
Keynsham Angling Association sometimes competes against Golden Valley each year, with one or both legs held on the River Avon. All Members wishing to represent KAA in these Inter-Club Matches can do so by contacting the Match Organiser.
Arthur Edwards Memorial Cup • End Of Season Match At The Mill Ground
The Arthur Edwards Memorial Cup was acquired following the death of G. Arthur Edwards in 1993. Arthur was Honorary Secretary for a decade and also tutored the Junior Section for many years, with great success. This Cup was contested in 2009 for the first time in a decade.
The Match takes place on the Mill Ground stretch of the River Chew at the back end of the Coarse season. The next Arthur Edwards Memorial Cup Match takes place on 13th March 2010. The draw is made in the first field of the Mill Ground, upstream of the Albert Mill.
George Bingham Shield & Trophy • The Christmas Match
The George Bingham Shield & Trophy is competed for each year at the Christmas Match, which has taken place at Century Ponds since the 1990's. Both ponds are used for the Match.
Prior to the Century Ponds era, the Match took place on the River Chew, where as many as 50 anglers braved the weather and flood waters.
The Shield is awarded to the winning Adult and the Trophy is given to the top Junior. The next scheduled Christmas Match is on 11th December 2010.
12th Dec 2009 • George Bingham Christmas Carp Match - Century Old Pond
1st - Rob Lansdown - 30lb 14oz - peg 2 - 2 fish
2nd - Matt Smith - 21lb 13oz - peg 8 - 2 fish
3rd - Jon Nash - 14lb 6oz - peg 5 - 1 fish
Four anglers turned out for the Christmas Carp Match and were well spaced out around the Pond. Due to both Christmas Matches being integrated as one Match, it was decided that only the Carp anglers' right hand rod would count towards winning the Shield!
Rob Lansdown drew peg 2 and fished fake sweet corn to the lilies, catching a Century Ponds personal best fish of 21lb 9oz, along with a 9lb 5oz fish from the margin. Fishing on peg 8 was last years winner Matt Smith, who fished one rod to the aerator using fake bloodworm and the other rod with pop-up boillie 3ft out from the margin. Matt had a 13lb 3oz fish and an 8lb 10oz.
Fishing from peg 5, Jon Nash was the first of the four anglers to find the feeding carp and was able to net a 14lb 6oz fish from his right hand rod, fishing tight to the margin between peg 3 and 4.
12th Dec 2009 • George Bingham Christmas Island Pond Match - Century Ponds
1st - Ben Groom - 6lb 10oz - peg 23
2nd - Mike Taylor - 2lb 4oz - peg 22

Nine anglers fished the Island Pond Christmas Match, with the wind blowing a gentle easterly the fish were hard to find. The only anglers to catch were those lucky enough to draw a peg with a feature to fish to. Ben Groom fished to the bush in the right side margin off peg 23 and found enough fish to give him first place with a winning weight of 6lb 10oz, catching all his fish on worm and maggot.
Second was Mike Taylor with 2lb 4oz fishing from peg 22. Mike caught fish from the start, fishing his left side margin under the bush. Third place went to Ian Tucker with 1 lb 0oz. Ian alternated between lilies to his left and reeds to his right from peg 26 and caught a steady run of small Perch.

The Mervyn Holmes Challenge Bowl was contested for the first time in over a decade on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Digger Smith's Yard, Claverton. In first place, and winning the Merv Holmes Rosebowl for the second time was Mike Taylor, fishing from peg 1 and putting together a weight of 3lb 3oz of bits plus a bonus Chub all taken on bronze maggot.
Runner-up was Phil Seymour with 2lb 8oz from peg 5, fishing punched bread at full depth 9 metres out. Phil caught all of his small Roach with the odd Skimmer in the first 2 hours before the rain came and the fish moved away. Third was Dave Weaver fishing peg 6. Dave fished to the far bank, catching small fish on maggot for a total weight of 1lb 12oz.
17th Oct 2009 • Inter Club Match - River Avon - The Crane - 10am To 3pm
1st - Phil Seymour - 3lb 2oz
2nd - Dave Weaver - 1lb 12oz
3rd - Paul Mogg - 1lb 10oz
Golden Valley were unable to put a team together. Keynsham A.A. had 10 members enter. Phil Seymour won the match with 3lb 2oz of small Roach, Chub and Perch. Most fish were caught on a float down the centre fishing 1ft off the bottom. When the fish moved off, a maggot feeder to the far bank kept the Chublets coming. Second place went to Dave Weaver with 1lb 12oz of Roach and Perch fishing maggot down the inside. In third place was Paul Mogg with 1lb 10oz fishing similar tactics to Dave Weaver.

1st - Mike Taylor - 5lb 4oz
2nd - Martin Smith - 8oz
In first place was Mike Taylor, fishing close in to the lily pads from peg 26, for a winning weight of 5lb 4oz. In second place was Martin Smith, who could only manage 8oz.
Third place was shared by 3 anglers who could only manage 4oz each.

Mike Taylor came first in the latest Club Match at Century Island Pond, fishing full depth at ten metres out in open water using chopped worm off peg 21, for a weight of 7lb 3oz. Bob Teakle beat Phil Seymour to second place by just 2oz. Bob fished close in with maggot from peg 26 and managed a total weight of 3lb 7oz.
2nd Aug 2009 • Club Match - Century Island Pond - 2pm To 7pm

2nd - Ben Groom - 2lb 11oz - peg 19
Fishing at the Sunday afternoon Match was made difficult with the flat and calm conditions and no feeding Carp. None of the anglers were able to get past the smaller fish. Bob Teakle won the Match with 7lb 3oz of Bream, Roach and Perch which he took on maggot, fishing just short of the island off peg 25. Second was Ben Groom fishing off peg 19 at 7 metres centre, who could only manage 2lb 11oz of small Roach and Perch.
25th Jul 2009 • Club Match - River Avon, Swineford
1st - Phil Seymour - 8lb 9oz - peg 1
2nd - Paul Mogg - 5lb 14oz - peg 11
3rd - Bob Teakle - 5lb 6oz - peg 10
The first of two Matches booked on the Crane stretch of the River Avon had a good turn out of anglers. Phil Seymour won the Match with 8lb 9oz fishing peg 1 and found a steady flow of small chub under the tree on the far bank fishing a maggot feeder. He also took a small amount of roach and perch fishing the waggler down the middle of the river when the chub moved away.
Second place went to Paul Mogg fishing from peg 11 who managed to put together 5lb 14oz of bream, chub and perch, fishing a ground bait feeder and waggler. Third place went to Bob Teakle fishing peg 10 and catching 5lb 6oz of roach, fishing maggot just out past the over-hanging trees.
21st Jun 2009 • Keeling Cup Match - River Chew, Mill Ground - 10am To 3pm
1st - Mike Taylor - 2lb 0oz - peg 10

In first place and winner of the Keeling Cup was Mike Taylor who poled maggot and bread to catch 2lb of roach fishing to the edge of lilies at peg 10. Runner-up was Paul Mogg fishing a maggot feeder down the centre and weighing in a mixed bag of small fish for 1lb 2oz from peg 8. In third place was Ben Groom fishing peg 9, who fished the pole with maggot and managed to put together just enough fish to hit the 1lb mark. The Match was competed on the River Chew at Keynsham.

The winner of round 6 was Phil Seymour fishing peg 24 at 13 meters using caster over chopped caster and putting together a mixed bag of 18lb. In second place was George Clark with 2lb 15oz fishing peg 18 using a feeder with worm, cast to the corner of the island. In 3rd was Ian Tucker with 2lb 4oz from peg 22 fishing a waggler in the margin.
The Winner of the 2009 E.M. Palmer cup was Phil Seymour. Six Matches were fished, with 1 point being awarded to the winner, 2 to second place and so on. The highest point-scoring round is disregarded. The overall points were as follows:

Bob Teakle came 2nd with 4lb 14oz, fishing maggot off peg 25 with a waggler just at the bottom of the shelf off the island. Third was Mike Taylor with 2lb 14oz fishing peg 17 with maggot at 9 meters centre.

The 4th round of six was fished on the Island Pond. Very strong winds made fishing difficult and most of the fish were found in the deeper water.
Phil Seymour came first on peg 24 with 5lb fishing just short of the island bush, fishing caster over loose feed caster. Second place went to Mike Taylor catching 2lb 8oz fishing off peg 22 on a short pole to centre. Most of Mike's fish fell to white maggot. Third was Bob Teakle with 1lb, fishing a waggler to open water.

The 3rd round of six was fished in perfectly calm conditions. Phil Seymour took 1st place with 5lb 10oz fishing from peg 21 at 13 meters in open water. Runner-up was Mike Taylor fishing at nine metres centre off peg 15. Third Place was George Clark fishing peg 23 fishing under the right hand margin bush, catching bits for 2lb 15oz.

The 2nd of the six evening Matches was fished on the Island Pond. Conditions were near to perfect with very little wind and fading sun light. Top honours went to Mike Taylor fishing peg 26, with white maggot poled to the left hand side lillies and catching a mixed bag totaling 6lb 8oz. In second place was Ian Tucker fishing the waggler at full depth centre from peg 16. Third was Bob Teakle fishing a waggler off peg 20 at full depth to the aereator pump.

The 1st of the six Wednesday evening Matches got under way with a very slow start. Five anglers booked in for the Series and the 1st Match was fished on the Old Pond. The wind was blustery and blowing from several directions. White maggot attracted most of the fish and Ian Tucker fishing peg 6 to the margin rushes found the better size fish with a winning weight of 2lb 2oz. Second was Phil Seymour who poled maggot at full depth 2ft short of the lily pads at peg 2 for 1lb 12oz. Third was Bob Teakle fishing a waggler tight to the lily pads from peg 12.

A total of seven anglers fished this afternoon Match at Century Island Pond, with five anglers catching. Martin Smith won the contest with 1lb 3oz from peg 17. Second was Ben Groom with 14oz from peg 18 and Paul Mogg came third with 13oz from peg 22.
28th Mar 2009 • Club Match - Century Island Pond - 10am To 3pm

A total of ten anglers turned out to fish the wintry conditions for little reward. Fishing was made difficult with a blustery North-Easterly wind and showers of rain throughout the Match. The fish were very hard to find and first place went to Dave Weaver fishing the margin of peg 26 with a perch for 1lb 11 oz. Runner-up was Paul Mogg on peg 18 with 1 crucian for 15oz and third was Bob Teakle peg 25 with one 5oz roach.
7th Mar 2009 • Arthur Edwards Cup - River Chew, Mill Ground - 10am To 3pm
1st - Dave Weaver - 1lb 0oz
2nd - Jamie Seymour - 8oz
3rd - Bob Teakle - 3oz
Fishing was made difficult due to the the southerly wind and a slightly faster flowing river than normal. Dave Weaver won the Arthur Edwards Memorial Cup with a solitary Trout weighing 1lb, tempted by a quill float down the centre using bread at full depth. Jamie Seymour was runner-up with 8oz made up of bits, a Grayling, a Gudgeon and Minnows. Third was Bob Teakle with a solitary roach of 3oz. Thanks to Phil for arranging the Match.
Century Ponds is closed to Members on alternate Sundays until 1pm for clay pigeon shooting.
